It was in 1939, in the turmoil of an era marked by global upheaval, that a small group of winegrowers from the Vevey-Montreux region decided to unite around a simple but powerful idea: to pool their know-how to create a common winery. Thus was born La Cave Vevey-Montreux, a symbol of peasant solidarity and a deep love for the land.
Over the decades, this human adventure has grown. New faces, new plots of land and prestigious appellations have enriched this collective project. Each generation has made its own contribution, respecting tradition and passing on a living heritage.
In 2023, the winery took on a new name, La Cave Montreux Riviera, a nod to its regional roots and its openness to the future. Today, it encompasses almost 45 hectares of vineyards in the Lavaux Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée, cultivated by some forty winegrowers, guardians of a know-how handed down from hand to hand.
These include emblematic estates such as Château des Crêtes and Clos de Plan-Chailly, testimony to a rich and respected winegrowing history. Each vintage is vinified with care, in a personalized approach where the winemaker remains the soul of the wine.
The Cave Montreux Riviera, true to the cooperative spirit of its origins, still belongs to its members. It is they, the winegrowers, who shape the decisions, the directions, the harvests. People are at the heart of this adventure, just as they were in 1939.
In a world in search of meaning and authenticity, the cooperative model is asserting itself with quiet strength. It guarantees the processing of all harvests, cuts out the middleman, and reinvests profits for the benefit of those who make the wine. It’s a way of remaining true to the spirit of our founders, while looking to the future with confidence.
